About Dee Poku Spalding
Dee Poku-Spalding is a British New Yorker of Ghanaian origin. A well-respected social entrepreneur, she is a strong advocate for workplace diversity. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, she moved into brand marketing and publicity and over the years has worked on campaigns for brands such as Coca-Cola, Absolut Vodka, Crème de la Mer, Stella Artois and London Fashion Week.
Dee Poku-Spalding has worked alongside the likes of Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L Jackson, Emily Blunt, Taraji P Henson and Penelope Cruz as a senior marketing executive in Hollywood, overseeing the campaigns for movies such as An Inconvenient Truth, No Country For Old Men, O Brother Where Art Thou, Lost in Translation, Babel, 21 Grams and Brokeback Mountain.
In 2010, she co-founded Women, Inspiration and Enterprise (WIE) inspired by her own experiences navigating corporate culture. WIE’s mission is to help the next generation of professional women acquire the skills and connections to succeed in their careers, by providing unique access to established business leaders. “Nothing makes me happier than seeing women succeed using the tools and knowledge WIE provides.” WIE has attracted a long list of esteemed speakers to its global symposiums and salons, including Melinda Gates, Arianna Huffington, Mellody Hobson and Queen Rania.
Dee Poku-Spalding was a blogger for the Huffington Post and is a current contributor to Forbes magazine. She serves on the Board of Directors of multiple nonprofits and is an advisor to several companies. They include BAFTA (the British Academy of Film and Television), Apres Group, a company dedicated to women who wish to reenter the workforce and MAZA a Ghana based health transportation company. Dee was formerly on the New Markets advisory board at investment bank Credit Suisse.
Dee Poku-Spalding is passionate about female entrepreneurship, which led her to found The Other Festival in 2016. The platform is designed to help founders, innovators, dreamers and doers build thriving scalable businesses. The annual festival attracts women redefining the way business is done, and includes artists, writers, chefs, musicians, photographers. Past speakers include Naomi Campbell, Rosario Dawson, Stacy London, Samantha Ronson and Alexis Krauss. Past performers include Justine Skye, Brooke Candy, Flint Eastwood and Ravyn Lenae.
Dee Poku-Spalding has been named a Council of Urban Professionals (CUP) Catalyst Changemaker and one of TRUE Africa’s 100 Top Innovators, as well as being named one of the top 100 women in the world by the Global Connections for Women Foundation (GC4W). She has spoken at conferences and events around the world on women, entrepreneurship, and the path to leadership. She currently resides in New York with her husband and her son.
